SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Controller, the Director, develops, leads, and implements strategies to improve the efficiency of the Material Management function, while focusing on cost, quality, and outcomes. Works with internal and external customers to identify, develop, and implement operational improvements in all areas of inventory control, process efficiencies, purchasing e-commerce, staff development, freight management and other areas. This role oversees the purchasing, receiving, and distribution functions; has responsibilities for the campus storeroom, supply courier, and various medical supply inventories of both Hospital and satellite clinic locations.
Manages the Material Management team to create a culture of customer service excellence by sharing best practices and developing standard operating procedures that can be incorporated into daily work processes. Knows, understand, incorporates, and demonstrates the MHS Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions.
Maintains a working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflect honest, ethical, and professional behavior. Oversees the department, including ongoing review of departmental policies and procedures, work assignments, and all personnel-related issues.
Oversees the storage of all department inventories to ensure adequacy of supplies, proper reported counts, values, expiration dates, and appropriate inventory turnover. Works closely with departments regarding usage and tracking of rental equipment and new supply product reviews/evaluations.
Develops and refines key operating metrics around supply chain operations and measures same in a continuous quality improvement atmosphere focusing on cost and quality outcomes. Works with vendors, AP partners to settle invoice discrepancies, delivery times, product substitutions, GPO compliance, freight management and pricing.
Ensures proper implementation of all negotiated contracts, while focusing on cost, quality, and outcomes for the organization. Ensure supply chain contracts and others as assigned are current and effective.
Manages the process of liquidation and redeployment of obsolete inventory via distributions to non-profit organizations or vendor credits.
Minimum of an Associate’s degree; or two years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge of accounting software, spreadsheet software and word processing software. Minimum of five (5) years of experience in Material Management within a healthcare organization preferred.
Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday. Must be able to lift over 50 pounds. Must be able to sit and walk for extended periods of time. Must be able to bend, squat, push, stoop, and pull as needed.
