What You Will Do In Your Role:
The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) is an integral part of the health care team. The Licensed Vocational Nurse performs those functions assigned and supervised by the Registered Professional Nurse (RN). The LVN will be assigned to care for patients with multiple needs under the supervision of a RN. (See addendum #1 for OB-LVN duties.) All GVN’s or LVN’s hired into the Methodist Healthcare System will be expected to complete the IV class within 60 days of hire.

Position Qualifications:
1. Education:
A. High school graduate or equivalent required.
Graduation from a program of vocational nursing.
Previous experience is desirable, but not required.Graduate of a vocational nursing school.
2. Experience:
A. No specific clinical experience required
3. Specific Requirements:
Currently licensed as a vocational nurse or practical nurse in Texas, in accordance with law and regulation, or current active Graduate Vocational Nurse (GVN) “temporary permission to practice” permit.
Certified in BLS
Clinically proficient in vocational nursing skills, demonstrating knowledge of the development needs of adult and geriatric patients.
Preferred: ACLS, IV Certification as mandated by state of practice.
Able to deal tactfully with patients, families, physicians, and employees.
