Job Summary and Qualifications

As a Pulmonary Function Technologist, you will assess, treat, provide diagnostic testing, and care for patients with pulmonary disorders. You will assume primary responsibility for all respiratory care modalities, initiate and conduct therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, maintain patient’s records, and select, assemble, check, and operate respiratory equipment.

What qualifications you will need:

  • You will read prescriptions, measures arterial blood gases, perform pulmonary function tests as ordered or following department protocols, administers tests independently and accurately, with appropriate documentation, and reviews patient information to assess the patient’s condition.
  • You will evaluate requirements for treatment, such as treatment type, mode and duration of therapy, universal precautions, medication and dosage, in accordance with physician orders, and provides education and training to patients and family members.
  • You will monitor physiological response to therapy, such as vital signs, arterial blood gases, pulse oximetry, auscultation, and consults with the physician for changes in patient status.
  • You will set up and operates devices such as mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration, aerosol generators, and disposable medical products, following specific parameters for treatment.
  • You will provide emergency care, including artificial ventilation, external cardiac message, and assists with cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • You will work as part of a team of physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals to manage patient care, enforce safety rules, and ensures adherence to the physician’s orders.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Acute Care Hospital experience preferred
  • Graduate of an American Medical Association accredited Respiratory Therapy program
  • Certified or Registered Respiratory Therapist credential by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
  • Current Texas Respiratory Care Practitioner license
  • Current certification as Basic Life Support (BLS) provider
  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required for NICU RRT Staff
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required for ICU RRT staff

This role requires you to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 based on local, state and /or federal law or regulations (unless a medical or religious exemption is approved).
