Manager will assume responsibility for the coordination and direction of the stroke program. Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the stroke protocol program. He/she directs, plans, and facilitates all protocols for care of the stroke patient in collaboration with the medical staff, sub-specialists, nursing and medical teams, and ancillary services. Must ensure that the stroke protocol program is in constant compliance with JCAHO, State, and other regulatory agencies.

Essential Duties:

  • Coordinates stroke services/systems and protocols to ensure compliance with appropriate governing agencies. Demonstrates excellence in practice through full role functions: practitioner, educator, consultant, and leader.
  • Develops and reviews policies and procedures in relation to stroke care of patients. Develops and implements stroke protocols, participates in stroke patient rounds to identify issues and evaluate solutions.
  • Serves as a liaison with pre-hospital providers, other stroke centers, tertiary centers, regional hospitals, and community and government agencies. Develops and maintains quality improvement to obtain objective data for overall analysis of the stroke program and development of improved methods of care to ensure quality stroke care.
  • Actively participates and represents in local, state, regional, and national organizations that support stroke patient care.
  • Assists in monitoring quality and identifies areas for improvement in the care or protocols.
  • Manages the orientation and training, staff development, problem resolution, and evaluating protocol performance.
  • The job responsibilities of this position may include cross training in other functions to ensure satisfactory operation of the stroke program.
  • Responsible for the participation in the stroke education activities carried out. 
  • Supports the mission and vision of the Methodist Healthcare System and demonstrates excellent customer service at all times.

  • Must learn and comply with System and facility safety policies and rules; must use appropriate safety equipment and procedures at all times; must immediately report all unsafe conditions to supervisors; must be familiar with all safety features of equipment, tools or materials encompassed by job duties; and must check with supervisors (prior to job performance) if there is a question as to the safe procedure to be used for any job function. 
  • Adheres to the MHS Code of Conduct and demonstrates ethical behavior as expected by our patients, colleagues and the community. Understands the personal obligation to report any activity that appears to violate applicable laws, rules regulations or the Code of Conduct itself. 
  • Completes other duties as assigned  

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Education and Experience: Graduate of a school of nursing with a Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum three years of hospital nursing experience.
  • Must have recent experience and proficiency with computer databases, word processing, and spreadsheet programs.
  • Minimum License and Certificates Required: Current license to practice professional nursing in the State of Texas. NIH Stroke Scale certification.
