Seeking an Infection Preventionist I, will be responsible for overall clinical operations of the facility’s assigned research protocols including enrollment, regulatory, quality, and site operations.
In this role, Infection Preventionist I will:
- Collects, collates, and classifies epidemiological and quality improvement data required by the Infection Prevention Program such as data on risk factors, infections, and patient care practices; investigates unusual infections and significant clusters of infections for their possible sources; assists with special studies as required.
- Reviews and analyses epidemiological data to identify unusual infections and significant clustering of infections and to determine trends in infection patterns and antimicrobial resistance; determines infection rates based on risk stratification of patients. Identifies and reports to stakeholders important trends related to infections and their prevention and control.
- Reports data in a systematic, effective manner: maintains a current listing of nosocomial and other significant infections as indicated for review by the Epidemiologist and Director of Infection Prevention; prepares a monthly report of nosocomial infections for review by the Infection Control Committee; presents verbal summaries of monthly infections to Committee; and interfaces between the hospital, physicians, and Health Department (or other community agencies) for infectious disease reporting and control.
- Identifies and investigates environmental infection hazards and recommends methods to eliminate/control problems.
- Serves as a consultant to hospital personnel and medical staff on patient placement, isolation, and other interventions to control or reduce infections or infectious risks among patients, personnel, medical staff, and visitors.
- Conducts orientation and in-service education classes relative to infection prevention for hospital employees and volunteers.
Minimum Requirements:
- Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in a medical science related field (e.g., clinical nursing, microbiology, epidemiology, public health, biology, biostatistics), OR Two-year degree in a health related field PLUS two years’ experience in infection prevention or a related field, such as clinical nursing, microbiology, epidemiology or public health.
- Required computer skills include proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, power point and graphic display programs, as well as a level of comfort with learning and adapting to new programs.
- Two years recent experience in hospital infection prevention preferred. Completion of CDC or APIC sponsored infection prevention training desirable. Working knowledge of statistics and epidemiological principles desirable.
- Minimum License, Certificates, or Registrations Required: Current Certification in Infection Prevention and Control by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology preferred.
