Job Summary and Qualifications

Responsible for the day-to-day clinical, technical and operational functions within the Breast Center department. This includes, but is not limited to, the efficient, effective procurement, utilization and stewardship of all technical, physical and human resources. Ensures compliance with patient care quality standards. Maintains performance improvement activities within the department and participates in QI activities. Assures competency of all personnel. Must be capable of interpreting and administering all policies, procedures and protocols of the department, hospital and partnership. Must maintain efficient and effective department operations while maintaining compliance with all Joint Commission, state, federal and local regulatory laws, standards and protocols. Must possess critical thinking skills and be capable of assuming complete departmental authority and responsibility in the absence of the Director.


Essential Job Functions: 

  • Resolves personnel concerns at the departmental level, utilizing the grievance process as required.
  • Assist with selection, disciplinary action and assessment of staff within the Breast Center department.
  • Ensure availability of adequately trained/licensed staff to maintain departmental function and assures competency of all personnel.
  • Completes annual performance appraisal and quarterly coaching plans for Breast Center team members.
  • Facilitates orientation for new employees.
  • Maintains flow of communication between all staff through daily huddles, monthly staff meetings/rounding, memos, bulletin boards, emails, and formal and/or informal discussions.
  • Adheres to and enforces Personnel/Administrative policies.
  • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
  • Coordinates daily work assignments and manages staffing levels as appropriate for volume of patients/procedures.
  • Assist with performance of procedures as needed.
  • Floats staff between departments as needed to optimize throughput.
  • Ensures team reviews all orders for completeness prior to performing services.
  • Reviews imaging studies and paperwork to ensure quality and accuracy.
  • Communicates with physicians/Radiologists as needed to facilitate department schedule/optimal patient care.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Effectively and consistently communicates administrative directives to personnel and encourages interactive departmental meetings and discussions.
  • Ensures availability of operational equipment; monitors and notifies service engineers of needed or anticipated repairs/maintenance.
  • Collaborates with Director to ensure continuous assessment and improvement of operations.
  • Communicates with Technologists to ensure smooth operations and patient throughput.
  • Provide department statistics/reports as assigned within established timeframes.
  • Maintain dept operations to meet established productivity standards > 90% of time.
  • Monitor dept expenses and modify/provide rationale as needed.
  • Identify additional/enhanced services to develop to promote additional revenue opportunities
  • Assist Director with annual budget process.
  • Provide rapid follow up to identify problems/issues/Incident Reports, including feedback to concerned customers.
  • Ensure compliance with established regulatory guidelines, including but not limited to The Joint Commission, TDH, HIPPA, ACR, MQSA/FDA and OSHA and assures that QC/QA is maintained within regulatory guidelines.
  • Assist with development and maintenance of department PI program.
  • Reviews departmental policies and procedures and job descriptions on a minimum of bi-annually and updates as appropriate.
  • Manage projects and perform additional tasks as requested by Director.
  • Anticipates customer needs and works to exceed expectations.

Education Requires one of the following:

  • ARRT(M) with Advanced Level Certificate in Mammography
  • Texas Medical Board MRT
  • BLS required as per Methodist Hospital Hill Country Policy
  • Associate’s Degree-Major: Applied Science
  • Graduate from an accredited school of Radiologic Technology


Experience:   

Minimum of 3 years as a Radiologic Technologist in a hospital setting 

Preferred: 

Supervisory experience
