Job Summary and Qualifications

 General Statement of Duties: The Controller is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, and providing leadership and direction. Direct Management responsibilities include planning, organizing, budgeting, controlling and directing, and cost/benefit analysis. Other responsibilities include general finance function, to include monthly financial reporting and all associated analysis, and to provide any and all needed financial analysis to management team to aid their decision making. 

Essential Job Functions: 

1. Ensures integrity and accuracy of reported financial information, to include all aspects of monthly financial close for Methodist Medical Center Hospitals, and all associated entities. Oversees the monthly, quarterly and annual Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance requirements of the department. 

2. Prepares specific detail month-end responsibilities, including: Coordination of all month-end activities, Detail analytical review of managed care revenue and contractuals, by payer, Global revenue and expense analysis and Global Balance Sheet account review. 

3. Prepares monthly financial reports, specifically: Monthly Executive Summaries and Net Revenue by payer schedules. 

4. Prepares annual facility budgets. 

5. Conducts routine (monthly) reviews of all balance sheet account reconciliations. 

6. Develops and maintains facility specific audit program and financial report distribution packet. 


Additional Job Functions: 

1. Provides direct responsibility for coordination/assistance with Corporate Internal Audit function, managerial support to Finance department and MIS department and financial support and guidance to administrative and management teams of Methodist Medical Center Hospitals. 

2. Coordinates and prepares external financial reporting items (Cost Report workpapers, Tax workpapers, surveys, etc.). 

3. Implements and maintains productivity system (PLUS).

5. Assist with contracting professional service agreements with Methodist Medical Staff using HCA UPSIDE contracting software. 

6. Serves as “liaison” for managers between Central Accounting Office (CAO) and Patient Accounting Center (PAC). 

7. Prepares “ad-hoc” financial analysis and reviews and approves chargemaster revisions. 

8. Supervises the coordination and contracting of clinical trials for the Medical Center Hospitals. 

9. Supports the mission and vision of the Methodist Healthcare System and demonstrates excellent customer service at all times. 

10. Understands and is committed to helping the Methodist Healthcare System and its associated facilities achieve its goals. 

11. Must learn and comply with System and facility safety policies and rules; must use appropriate safety equipment and procedures at all times; must immediately report all unsafe conditions to supervisors; must be familiar with all safety features of equipment, tools or materials encompassed by job duties; and must check with supervisors (prior to job performance) if there is a question as to the safe procedure to be used for any job function. 

12. Adheres to the MHS Code of Conduct and demonstrates ethical behavior as expected by our patients, colleagues and the community. Understands the personal obligation to report any activity that appears to violate applicable laws, rules regulations or the Code of Conduct itself. 

13. Completes other duties as assigned.

 Minimum Education and Experience: 

Must have a BS/BA in Finance or Accounting. 

Must have four years of progressive leadership experience with proven leadership capabilities within the healthcare industry. 

Must have a minimum of five years of financial/accounting experience.
