Your Role: - Stroke Program Manager - Clinical Outcomes Department

The Stroke Program Manager is responsible for the coordination of stroke services and outreach in a collaborative effort with hospital leadership, the Stroke Medical Director and the Stroke Coordinator.  Responsibilities include to direct, plan, and facilitate protocols for care of the stroke patient in conjunction with medical staff, physician specialists, Nursing, Quality and ancillary services.  He/she will participate in Stroke quality of care data abstraction and analyzes to ensure high quality Stroke care delivery. 

  1. Improve coordination of care and standardization of Stroke care through implementation of evidence-based clinical protocols and policies.
  • Assist in monitoring Stoke quality outcomes and identify areas for improvement in the care or protocols.  Utilize Plan, Do, Check, Act (PDCA) performance improvement methodology.
  • Design and implement clinical protocols and policies in collaboration with the Stroke Medical Director and Stroke Coordinator.  Gain support from key stakeholders such as but not limited to Nursing, physicians, as well as affiliate hospitals to ensure compliance with protocols, i.e. transfer protocols.
  • Participate in regular reviews of Stroke order sets and pathways as needed. Educate staff and physicians accordingly, including staff orientation and development/training.
  • Ensures that Stroke protocols are in compliance with DNV GL Healthcare, The Joint Commission, DSHS, and other regulatory agencies.
  1. Achieve/ maintain Stroke Accreditation.
  • Complete data abstraction and analyses. 
  • Develop resource guide, provide guidance and actively participate with the Stroke Medical Director and Stroke Coordinator ongoing for survey preparation and site visits.
  • Routinely review and evaluate readiness of the Stroke Program and is an owner of process improvement initiatives.  Conduct Stroke rounds and/or mock survey in collaboration with the Stroke Coordinator and facility leadership as needed
  1. Establish plan to increase awareness of and visibility for the Stroke Program within the community to improve and sustain high quality Stroke care.
  • Serve as a liaison for MHS with pre-hospital providers, other stroke centers, tertiary centers, regional hospitals, and community and government agencies.    
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders – EMS, STRAC, ED physicians, MHS Patient Placement, etc. to optimize access to quality and timely neurology care.
  • Coordinate communication and outreach plan, in collaboration with the Public Relations and Marketing, to improve community awareness of the Stroke Program.  Coordinate with stakeholders one Stroke Community Outreach programs and regular seminars to improve stroke awareness and prevention.
  • Actively participates and represents MHS in local, state, regional and national organizations that support Stroke patient care.
  1. Collaborate with the inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation programs to ensure seamless and timely access to the post-acute continuum.

  1. Develop clinical and research collaborations with other Stroke programs with HCA and non-HCA facilities.
  • Identify best practices and innovations in Stroke care.
  • Collaborate with the research team to further develop the clinical and translational stroke research program.
  • Help identify and secure Stroke clinical trials. 



  • Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing. BSN required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of hospital nursing experience. 

Employee completes initial and ongoing training and competencies as defined by service line, facility and department/unit which are specific to the needs of the patient population served (if applicable).

License and Certifications:
  • Current licensure to practice professional nursing in the State of Texas.
  • Obtain certification within first year of role.  Maintain NIHSS certification. 
  • Maintain 8 hours of annual Stroke education.
  • MSN degree and two years of critical care or emergency nursing care preferred.
