Healthcare System includes Medina Regional Hospital in Hondo, TX and five
Medina Healthcare System has earned a 5-star rating in the most
recently released data that will soon post on the Centers for Medicare and
Medicaid (CMS) Hospital Compare website. The HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer
Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems) star ratings provide a snapshot
of various patient experience and quality measures across the United States.
5-star rating reflects the inpatient experience at Medina Regional Hospital and
ranks in the top 5% of hospitals in the United States. Through a survey
conducted by a third party vendor, discharged patients are asked a series of
questions related to their hospital stay. Questions focus on key elements of a
patient’s stay such as how well nurses and doctors communicate, staff
responsiveness, pain management, hospital cleanliness, and the overall hospital
rating. With 264 hospitals in Texas, only 24 received a 5-star rating in this
category, a testament to the high quality and personalized care provided at
Medina Regional Hospital.

Specializes in diagnosis and treatment of speech and language
problems, and engages in scientific study of human communication by performing
the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
-Diagnoses and evaluates speech and language skills as related to educational,
medical, social, and psychological factors.
-Plans, directs, or conducts rehabilitative treatment programs to restore
communicative efficiency of individuals with communication problems of organic
and non-organic etiology.
-Provides counseling and guidance and language development therapy to disabled
-Reviews individual file to obtain background information prior to evaluation
to determine appropriate tests and to ensure that adequate information is
-Administers, scores, and interprets specialized hearing and speech tests.
-Develops and implements individualized plans for assigned clients to meet
individual needs, interests, and abilities.
-Evaluates and monitors individuals.
-Reviews treatment plans, and assesses individual performance to modify,
change, or write new programs.
-Maintains records as required by law, establishment's policy, and
-Attends meetings and conferences and participates in other activities to
promote professional growth.
-Instructs individuals to monitor their own speech and provides ways to
practice new skills.
-Acts as consultant to educational, medical, and other professional groups.
-Conducts research to develop diagnostic and remedial techniques.
-Serves as consultant to classroom teachers to incorporate speech and language
development activities into daily schedule.
-Teaches manual sign language to student incapable of speaking.

Education and/or Experience:
Fifth year college or university program certificate; or two to four years
related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Current license from the State Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology
and Audiology, BLS Required within 30 days of hire.
