Medina Healthcare System includes Medina Regional Hospital in Hondo, TX and five clinics.

 

Medina Healthcare System has earned a 5-star rating in the most recently released data that will soon post on the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) Hospital Compare website. The HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems) star ratings provide a snapshot of various patient experience and quality measures across the United States.

This 5-star rating reflects the inpatient experience at Medina Regional Hospital and ranks in the top 5% of hospitals in the United States. Through a survey conducted by a third party vendor, discharged patients are asked a series of questions related to their hospital stay. Questions focus on key elements of a patient’s stay such as how well nurses and doctors communicate, staff responsiveness, pain management, hospital cleanliness, and the overall hospital rating. With 264 hospitals in Texas, only 24 received a 5-star rating in this category, a testament to the high quality and personalized care provided at Medina Regional Hospital.

Summary:

Directs and coordinates infection control program in accordance with the policies of MHS and directives of the medical staff. Possess the ability to comprehend and follow written or verbal instruction ordirections. Adheres to MHS Standard Precaution policy and procedure. Performs other duties as requested by supervisor. Work with supervisors, other department managers and medical staff in order to provide the best patient care possible.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Compares laboratory reports with communicable diseases list to identify conditions that require infection control procedures.
-Advises and consults with physicians, nurses, and hospital personnel concerning precautions to be taken to protect patients, staff, and other persons from possible contamination or infection.
-Investigates infection control problems and arranges for follow-up care for persons exposed to infection or disease.
-Instructs hospital personnel in universal and specific infection control procedures. This includes but not limited to memos, MO Day in-service and random in-service for departments.
-Organizes Infection Control Meetings.
-Maintains positive and effective relationships with other departments and the Medical Staff.
-Maintains open communication and problem solving atmosphere with other departments to achieve
quality patient care.
-Any other job duty as allowed by licensure.
-Attends in-service training at the request of their Director, including hospital orientation and Annual Skills Fair.
-Will be preceptor to new hires as requested.
-Complete other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Education and/or Experience:
Current Texas Registered Nurse Licensure. Bachelor of Science in Nursing; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. BLS required within 30 days of hire; ACLS required within 90 days of hire. RN License to practice as a professional Registered Nurse in the State of Texas or Active Multi-State RN Compact License. (Employees with RN Compact Licensure are required to obtain Texas RN License within 90 days of hire date.) Employee completes initial and ongoing training and competencies as defined by service line, facility and department/unit which are specific to the needs of the patient population served as applicable. CIC certification strongly preferred.
