We are seeking a Director of Child Life for Methodist Children’s Hospital.   The Child Life Director is responsible for facilitating, coordinating and delegating therapeutic activities and appropriate psychosocial/developmental care for pediatric and adolescent patients and families. Provides guidance to the Child Life Specialists for developing patient treatment plans in effectively coping with stress and anxiety of health care experiences. She/he works cooperatively with administrators, physicians, staff, other managers and all customers of the Methodist Healthcare System to provide services, which consistently meet and exceed the expectations of their customers. This is accomplished by assessing and prioritizing opportunities to improve, plan and implement effective changes and evaluate outcomes of process improvement activities. What You Will Do In Your Role:

  • Manages personnel to include interviewing, work allocation, orientation and training, staff development, problem resolution, evaluating performance, making recommendations for personnel actions, and motivation of employees to achieve peak performance. Is responsible for meeting department productivity targets.
  • Participates in the planning, development and management of operational and equipment budgets annually. Provides financial variance analysis reports in a timely manner. Reviews monthly financial statistics and plans expenditures according to budget limitations. Manages the ongoing implementation of approved plans.
  • Ensures that treatment plans developed by the CLS includes proper assessment of patients and that the CLS facilitates play interactions with regard to developmental level, interest, capabilities, life situations, special concerns, and stress vulnerability potential related to illness, injury and health care. Documents assessments when appropriate.
  • Reviews the CLS’s individualized program of activities and/or behavioral strategies as needed for patients in consultation with nursing staff and other involved members of the health care team. Participates in patient’s discharge planning as appropriate.
  • Serves as a clinical resource to pediatric staff, parents, volunteers, students, and other hospital staff in areas where children are treated. Provides interdisciplinary in-service education on child development, child life, and the impact of illness, injury and health care on patients and families.
  • Provides procedural, emotional and bereavement support to patients/families. Assess needs for outpatient psychosocial care and recommends referrals.

 

 

Qualifications

What qualifications you will need:

  • Baccalaureate degree in education, child development, child life psychology or related field.
  • At least two-year clinical experience as a Child Life Specialist.
  • Certification by the Child Life Council required
