Seeking an Art Therapist  to join our team who responsible for providing art therapy and therapeutic activities (both individual and group setting) for patients and their siblings in the Hematology/Oncology/ and Bone Marrow Transplant inpatient and outpatient settings. Multi-disciplinary team meetings provide for planning and communication that establish individualized treatment plans for medical and psychological intervention. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and Methodist Healthcare Systems philosophy, policies, procedures and standards.

What you will do in this role:

  • Plans, directs, monitors, and evaluates group and individual art therapy and therapeutic services to patients /families with complex medical and psychosocial issues within the Hematology/Oncology/Bone Marrow Transplant program, in accordance with Ethical Standards of American Art Therapy Association.
  • Provides family-centered psychosocial care through; o conducting individual, group, and family-centered art therapy and counseling services o completing individual consultation and evaluation of patient’s siblings, as needed o advising parents on techniques for behavior management and emotional nurturance of the medically complex child. o providing art therapy and therapeutic play interventions to assist patients in coping and cooperating with medical care.
  • Collaborates with medical healthcare team to coordinate art therapy and counseling services and to provide comprehensive psychosocial care.
  • Attends and participates in multidisciplinary treatment planning meetings to ensure coordination with medical team efforts. 
  • Documents art therapy/counseling sessions, assessments, and progress notes in patient chart (inpatient and outpatient, as appropriate)
  • Participates in BMT & Hem/Onc Survivorship Clinic by conducting age-appropriate art therapy assessments to determine developmental and emotional functioning related to treatment. Documents assessment and presents findings/recommendations to medical team.
  • Co-facilitates staff gatherings to process grief and loss, post crisis interventions, and therapeutic support



  • Master’s Degree in Art Therapy by accredited Art Therapy Program.


  • 2 years experience as an Art Therapist; experience with pediatric oncology patients or patients with complex medical & psychosocial issues
