We are looking for a motivated, self-directed nurse to be our CABG Quality & Safety Coordinator. This nurse will review all CABG candidates and coordinate a heart team review, ensure critical care components from pre-surgical to post-discharge are met, facilitate gathering and review of the data specific to CABG patients, managing the STS National registry for CABG patients, synthesize the data and outcomes of the program and initiate appropriate process improvement projects to address program gaps. You’ll work with nurses, physicians, and ancillary staff across the continuum of the care required for our CABG patients. This is a great transition opportunity because you get to still visit the OR, be part of ICU rounding and conversations, check in with patients and families, but also learn to use the administrative skills and knowledge that you are developing. 

What you will do in this role:

  • Plans, coordinates, implements evidence-based program components, provides patient education and facilitates education and partnership with operative, critical care, and acute care nursing team members to facilitate safe, effective care of open heart and other cardiac surgical patients. 
  • Serves as a resource and consultant to the units providing care to this patient population, and facilitates process improvement and program growth to ensure our cardiac surgery program offers the very best in-patient care, safety, and optimal outcomes.
  • Maintains quality assurance program, concurrent data review, and contributes to policy, procedure, and planning for cardiac surgical programs. Responsible for maintaining national registries and synthesis of data to drive quality outcomes. Serves on committees and reports to facility and division level committees for accountability and improvement projects.
  • Instrumental in keeping abreast of the physician utilization, maintaining positive relationships with a variety of physician groups, and ensuring our program makes it easy for each physician to feel success and comfort as they entrust their patients to our care.
  • Coordinator follows all patients from pre-operative preparation, facilitates heart team review of each surgical candidate, ensures care milestones are achieved during inpatient post-surgical care, and then facilitates interim follow-up for 3-6 months post-surgery.

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Professional Nursing, with a Baccalaureate Degree in nursing preferred.

  • Certification in BLS, ACLS, Basic Dysrhythmia Course.

  • License to practice professional nursing in the State of Texas

  • Critical care experience with experience in cardiovascular assessment.

  • Knowledge of and ability to apply principles of adult education.

  • Supervisory experience is preferred but not required.
