Seeking a Pediatric Cardiovascular Critical Care Nurse Navigator to join our PICU team. The Cardiac Navigator functions as a member of the multidisciplinary team and serves as an advocate and educator for the cardiac patients.  The Cardiac Navigator’s primary function is to ensure the patient, staff and physicians have the informational and educational needs for the treatment plan.  Navigators achieve this goal by building relationships with patients and physicians, education, and/or representation within the multidisciplinary care environment.  The Navigator also assumes responsibility and accountability for the management of resources to achieve efficient, high-quality outcomes for patients, including support with interdisciplinary and cross-facility coverage and collaboration.The Navigator will serve as a liaison between the patient and family; all physicians involved in with patient’s care, internal and external healthcare providers, support network members, and the wider healthcare community.  This role will require collaboration with local physician liaisons and leadership to provide formal/informal staff education and to evaluate teaching effectiveness through feedback from staff and multidisciplinary team members.
What you will do in this role:
  • Assists leadership in the formulation and achievement of goals for the CICU Cardiac Program
  • Works collaboratively and functions as an effective member of the health care team as well as a contact within the Methodist community.
  • Collaborate in preparing professional reports, articles and presentations for colleagues and professionals.
  • Contributes to the development and implementation of necessary changes in the program based on Q/I project result and is a stake-holder engagement for projects and quality initiatives within the inpatient realm.
  • Attends Tuesday and Thursday program conferences and is a representative voice for the clinical non-physician team and patient-care considerations.
  • Responsible for the integration and roll out of educational programs, including new employee orientation, preceptor support.
  • Guides clinical education, simulation and on-boarding for CICU RN’s and leads real time, on the spot simulations at the bedside.
  • May attend educational conferences, rounds, workshops and seminars; seeks out opportunities to share information gained with colleagues.
  • Responsible for leading an education team to support staff and to help roll out cardiac education initiatives including establishing roll out timelines, tracking and reporting on completions as well as assisting with auditing for compliance. 

  • Bachelor degree in Nursing with graduation from an accredited school of nursing required.
  • Minimum five years recent professional experience with pediatric cardiac critical care patients and families.
  • Current RN license in the state of Texas or current multi-state RN compact    license.  Employees with RN compact license status are required to obtain a Texas RN license within 90-days of hire.
