Seeking a Certified Coder to join our team who is responsible for Reviews and codes designated Histology and Pathology notes for one or multiple practices. Resolves complex coding scenarios. Provides feedback and documentation advice to the pathologist(s) and practice management. Works with AR to resolve coding related denials.

In this role, the Certified Coder will:

  • Receives and reviews charge documents from the clinic and/or hospital.
  • Ensures charge information provided is correct and accurate.
  • Abstracts CPT-4, HCPCS II and ICD-9-CM from medical records
  • Keeps supervisor apprised of matters regarding charge entry.
  • Charge entry into billing system in a timely manner.
  • Works in conjunction with A/R team on follow up and resolution of coding related denials and rejections
  • Responsible for maintaining current knowledge of coding guidelines and relevant federal regulations through the use of current CPT-4, HCPCS II, and ICD-9/ICDD-10 materials, the Methodist Healthcare System Job Description Job Title: CODER FLSA: 2 Federal Register, and other pertinent materials.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through in-service meetings, educational programs, conferences, etc.
  • Tracks denial patterns to address systemic issues
  • Available to assist and direct the practice or other appropriate staff regarding documentation, billing, coding, and reimbursement issues.
  • Performs related work and projects as required.
  • Practice and adhere to the “Code of Conduct” philosophy and “Mission and Value Statement”.
  • Maintains strictest confidentiality.
  • Meets designated productivity and accuracy rate of 95%.
  • Knowledge of eCW billing system and/or other related billing system.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology. 17.Knowledge of medical coding including CPT-4, HCPCS II and ICD-10-CM.



Education:

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy and physiology is preferred

Experience:

  • One year of coding and billing experience in a healthcare environment
  • Employee completes initial and ongoing training and competencies as defined by service line, facility and department/unit which are specific to the needs of the patient population served (if applicable).

Preferred: Minimum License, Certificates, or Registrations Required:

Required: Certification -- One of the following certifications is a MUST have, Governing Body full name AHIMA (American Health Information Management Association) or AAPC (American Academy of Professional Coders)

  • CertifiedCoding Specialist(CCS) AHIMA
  • CertifiedCodingSpecialist –Physician (CCS-P) AHIMA
  • Registered Health InformationTechnician–RHIT AHIMA
  • Registered Health Information Administrator – RHIA AHIMA
  • CertifiedProfessional Coder- (CPC®) AAPC
  • Certified Professional Coder – Hospital (CPC-H®) AAPC
