Seeking a Cellular Therapy Technical Specialist prepares hematopoetic stem cell components as appropriate for transplantation or infusion in accordance with regulatory standards.

What you will do In This Role:

  • Performs routine and specialized procedures such as processing, cryopreservation, and infusion preparation of harvested bone marrow, peripheral blood stem cells, and umbilical cord blood to provide components necessary for transplantation.
  • Assures Cellular Therapy Laboratory’s compliance with standards and regulations set forth by College of American Pathologists (CAP), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Clinical
  • Laboratory Improvements Act (CLIA), Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards (NCCLS), American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) and FACT (Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy).
  • Assists Medical Director with the evaluation of new processing and technical procedures; also with evaluation of new instrumentation; as well as with modification, re-standardization, or revision of existing procedures. Assists in developing research protocols, and compiles and presents data to Medical Director.
  • Operates and maintains instrumentation according to established laboratory protocols and procedures. Recognizes problems, troubleshoots and ensures that repairs are completed; provides bench instruction and orientation to new employees.
  • Collects, maintains, evaluates data and prepares statistical reports for program transplant coordinator, donor registries, accrediting agencies, quality assurance activities, and budgetary purposes; provides input into budget process and adheres to departmental budget constraints.
  • Serves as technical liaison with medical and nursing staff.

What Qualifications You Will Need:

  •  Education: BS in biological sciences or related field is required
  • Experience: Minimum – one year of clinical laboratory experience in a laboratory performing high complexity testing or advanced training in a Molecular Biology program.
  • Employee completes initial and ongoing training and competencies as defined by service line, facility and department/unit which are specific to the needs of the patient population served (if applicable).
  • Preferred: BS Degree in Medical Technology or Molecular Biology plus 2+ years experience working in a clinical molecular laboratory.
  • Baccalaureate degree in chemistry, biology, medical technology preferred;
  • 2 years of experience in hematology, blood bank, flowcytometry, hematopoetic cell processing or related field.
  • Minimum License and Certificates Required: N/A
